2013 Links at Unionvale Ladies’ Golf Club – Tournament Rules and Schedule

We will continue to operate as an independent club separate from the Men’s Club. We have aligned our rules with the Men’s Club rules with some exceptions which are  highlighted in Capital letters.

Our official tournament season is from April 6th through October 27th.  Following is important information for our weekly weekend tournaments, Club Championship competitions and other important Annual competitions. 

 Weekend Tournament Formats:

The format for the majority of weekend tournaments will be Stableford Scoring (e.g. Net Eagle = 4 Points, Net Birdie = 3 Points, Net Par = 2 Points, Net Bogie = 1 Point, Net Double Bogie or worse = 0 Points).  Usually tournaments will be held on Saturday except on the second Sunday of each month tournaments which will be played using a LOW NET format.  Usually, there will be no tournament on Saturday of that weekend.

 In addition, Bernadette Crowley has agreed to set up some High/Low tournaments for the ladies over the summer months.  Details to follow.   

 Other Important Weekend Tournaments: 

End of the Month “Major” tournaments will be held on the 4th Saturday of each month from April through October.  The Links at Union Vale will provide additional prizes for these Major Tournaments.  THE LADIES WILL BE PART OF A RANDOM DRAW FOR THIS EVENT ONLY.  ALSO ,  THE LADIES WILL HAVE A LONG DRIVE PRIZE ALONG WITH A NEAREST TO THE PIN PRIZE FOR THIS TOURNAMENT.  All players must post their own score and record it as a  “T” score for this tournament .

 The President’s Prize competition will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013. WILLL ALSO BE A RANDOM DRAW FOR THE LADIES AND SCORES SHOULD BE POSTED AS A TOURNAMENT (T) SCORE.

Tournament Rules:

Entry Fee is $10 for all Weekend Tournaments. All Equity and Annual Members maintaining their Handicap at the Links are eligible to participate in the weekend tournaments. 

 All weekend tournaments are played from  the #1 tee;  MAXIMUM HANDICAP IS 40.

 “GIMMIE” PUTTS ARE NOT PERMITTED.

 Every member is responsible for knowing the rules of the Golf Course. 

 All tournament  score cards must be complete, legible and have 2 member signatures (one card only).  Scores must be totaled correctly and  must be submitted on the same day of play.  No exceptions.  If card is not in the box,  the member is out of competition .

 Handicap Adjustments:

TOURNAMENT WINNERS  WILL BE CUT 1 STROKE UP TO 42 POINTS FOR A PERIOD OF 2 PAID TOURNAMENTS.

 THOSE  PLAYERS SCORING  43 POINTS AND ABOVE WILL BE CUT 2 STROKES FOR A PERIOD OF 2 PAID TOURNAMENTS ( UNLESS REVISED USGA INDEX RESULTS IN A LOWER HANDICAP).  If the winner wins additional tournament (s) in that period she will be cut an additional stroke for each win and the two tournament period will be extended after each win. 

Weekend Tournament Prizes:

 A total of TWO PRIZES AND  TWO NEAREST TO THE PIN PRIZES will be provided for each weekly tournament: 

END OF MONTH TOURNAMENT  WILL INCLUDE: 1ST, 2ND, AND THIRD PLACES PRIZES ALONG WITH LONG DRIVE AND ONE NEAREST THE PIN PRIZE . 

 The weekend tournament prize ‘purse’ will vary depending upon the number of Entry Fees collected each weekend.

The above will be modified slightly for END OF MONTH TOURNAMENTS.

 NOTE: The tournament committee will cancel a tournament if there is insufficient participation( at least 4 players)  – if a tournament is canceled, all entry fees will be returned to participants.  

 APPEALS: 

Disagreements or issues relating to tournament play (e.g. winning scores, disqualifications, handicap adjustments, etc.) should be brought to the attention of the appropriate Committee Chairperson (e.g. Tournament,  Handicap, etc.) for resolution. 

 If the issue cannot be resolved with the Committee Chair,  an Appeals Committee  will review unresolved concerns/issues relating to tournament play (e.g. winning scores, disqualifications, handicap adjustments, etc.).  The Appeals Committee  will review the facts of the issue and communicate their decision to the people involved in the appeal.  The decision of the Appeals Committee is final.

SIGN-UP SHEETS HAVE BEEN POSTED IN THE LADIES LOCKER ROOM. PLEASE SIGN UP BY MAY 15TH.  THE DRAW WILL BE POSTED AT THE END OF MAY.

Club Championship matches will be played off SCRATCH;

Annual  Handicap and Club Championship Match Schedules

 Handicap

  • 1st round played by June 23
  • 2nd round played by July 28
  • 3rd round played by September 1st
  • Final round played by September 29 (Finals are 36 hole matches)

Club Championship:

  • 1st round played by June 30
  • 2nd round played by August 4
  • 3rd round played by September 1st
  • Final round played by October 6th. (Finals are 36 hole matches)

 The person at the top of each bracket is responsible for contacting their opponent to schedule the match.  Matches must be played by dates posted – PLEASE NO EXTENSIONS,  exceptions or excuses accepted. IF ANY MATCH IS NOT PLAYED BY THE DEADLINE, THE PLAYER PRESENT AT THE LINKS AND ENTERED IN THE TOURNAMENT ON DEADLINE DATE WILL ADVANCE.  IF NEITHER PLAYER IS ENTERED IN THE TOURNAMENT ON THE DEADLINE DATE THEN BOTH PLAYERS WILL BE ELIMINATED.  Please avoid elimination if at all possible by arranging  with each other who will go forward in the interest of competition for all players. 

 ALL MATCH PLAY TOURNAMENTS, PRESIDENT PRIZE TOURNAMENT AND END OF MONTH TOURNAMENT SCORES MUST BE ENTERED AS  A “T”  SCORE.

Other Important Annual Prizes

Player of the Year – eligibility will be determined using a point system approach AND MUST HAVE PARTICIPATED IN A MINIMUM OF 8 PAID TOURNAMENTS, INCLUDING AT LEAST 2 END-OF-MONTH TOURNAMENTS

Points will be allocated as follows: 5 Points for 1St place, 3   Points for 2ND place, 2 points for 3rd place (even if no prize is given) and one (1) point for participation in a tournament. 

 THE PLAYER WITH THE MOST POINTS  AFTER  THE  OCTOBER 13TH TOURNAMENT WILL WIN THE PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD. 

 Most Improved Player – selected by the MGA;  MUST HAVE 10 scores played at the Links during the current season.

A few final reminders:

 ·         The 4th  Saturday of every month is End of Month Links Major. Must be posted as a “T” score.

·         “GIMMIES” NOT ALLOWED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

·         MAXIMUM HANDICAP IS 40. 

 DROP AREAS:  5th hole , in front of the ladies’ tee box: Ball may be placed and third shot is hit from there.  8th hole, in front of wetlands just alongside the road:  ball may be placed and FOURTH shot hit from there. Or play your THIRD  shot from Tee Box side of the wetlands.

ENVIRONMENTAL AREAS: Are marked by an environmental sign  or red and yellow stakes with a green top; Two Stroke penalty applies if you enter these areas to play or search for your ball.   

Ladies are encouraged to play with other lady members whenever possible.
